As part of THiNK FEsT on the 6th of November, from 13:00 – 14:45 at THUAS, researchers Antti Uimonen and Tamara Babik are guiding participants into the world of embodied research practices. Antti’s and Tamara’s project, The Optimal Future Professional Body, has developed practices inspired by dance, theater, and performance art to study embodied experiences of professionalism.

With the following invitation, you are warmly invited to join and explore together with other curious bodies.

How do you represent your professional self? What is the optimal version of the professional, and how do you embody it? In many educational institutions, learning is not only seen as the acquisition of knowledge, but also as preparation for the “real” professional world. In this workshop, we invite you to examine the narratives and expectations that the university and education shape, determining the kinds of bodies, identities, and ways of being deemed employable, presentable, and worthy of projection into the future. We are inviting you to sense, move with, expose, and reflect on the embodied experience of “the optimal professional”.

We will critically explore these questions together through a series of embodied, sensory, and movement-based explorations inspired by dance and theater. Our goal is to shed light on the often-invisible bodily universe of education—how do you manifest, perceive, and embody the professional identities, and how is that transmitted to the students as future professionals? For participation, no prior experience in movement or theater is required. A curious mind and a willingness to explore are enough.
